The Salkantay mountain or Salcantay, is the highest mountain in the Vilcabamba mountain range at 6,271 meters above sea level and the second highest in the Cusco region. Located in the Vilcabamba mountain range, in the district of Santa Teresa, province of La Convencion, Department of Cusco in Peru. The Great Salkantay is one of the most difficult mountains to climb in the region.

The Salkantay hike offers a more natural beauty, unlike the ancient ruins. You pass high mountains and jungle, all in very desolate areas.
The hike usually begins in the town of Mollepata or SORAYPAMPA in the Apurimac valley northwest of Cusco. You can arrive early in the morning by bus. Then afterwards you will visit Umantay Mountain and the lagoon. The first night on this hike is cold, it is important that you are prepared for that. The camp is located next to the snowy peak of Salkantay. On a clear night, you will see a sky full of stars. Having a good quality sleeping bag is essential if you want a good night’s sleep.
This place is dominated by the turquoise waters of the waters that contrast with the white of the snow and the intense sky of the mountain sky. The snowy territory of Salkantay gives us a unique landscape crowned by snowy peaks, where we feel very small. The walk continues and at each step you are surprised by a beautiful landscape, where nature is the protagonist.
